The Silver Savannah

The colour of the silver Savannah cat is the result of the inhibitor gene that stops the production of Pheomelanin. Silver is not actually a colour, but a lack of it. And unlike the other colours, silver cannot be carried. In order to produce a silver Savannah, at least one parent must always be silver.

The silver Savannah cat has a white background colour, a light silver to dark silver foreground colour and dark silver to jet black markings. An untarnished coat (without any brown colouration) is desired but it is difficult to achieve, especially if one parent of the silver Savannah cat is brown.

The undersides of the silver Savannah cat are virtually white. The paw pads are a deep charcoal or brownish/black colour and the tail tip is always black.

The silver Savannah cat has green, yellow or amber eyes, dark and prominent tear duct lines, black lips and nose leather that is either pink to brick red surrounded by liner, solid black or black with a pink to brick red center stripe.

Because there is no such thing as a silver African Serval, some purist breeders do not agree with having this colour variety within the breed but it remains a recognised colour within the TICA breed standard.
